On the occasion of 28. April, the World Day for Safety and Health at Work, as well on the occasion on 1 May, International Labour Day, we would like to remind employers and workers that the safety and health at work should be the basis and the beginning of each work activity.
Safe and healthy workplaces is one of the basic rights of each person and worker. Adhering to laws and regulations in the area of occupational health and safety provides for socially and economically productive life, and in that sense legal work and safe workplaces are basis for social development.
The aim of surveillance policy in the area of safety and health at work is foremost preventing work-related injuries and professional illness, and it is based on starting a series of activities in several areas of work, such as implementing preventive measures in all forms of work, training employees for safe and healthy work, monitoring the health of employees and monitoring conditions of the workplace environment.
Safe workplace is a responsibility for both employers and employees. Employers are obliged to secure conditions for a safe work by organising and implementing work safety measures, and employees to give their contribution to improving safety and health at work by acting in accordance with prescribed occupational health and safety rules, performing work duties in a correct way and using suitable protective equipment.
The Republic of Srpska Inspectorate appeals to the employers and workers to work together in raising awareness of all citizens on the importance of safety and health at work. The common goal of the whole social community should be to raise awareness on prevention culture, as well as creating safe and healthy work environment in which the risks for workers will be minimal.
