Bearing in mind high temperatures throughout the day because of which the workers who work in the open, as in construction or agriculture, work in unfavourable conditions, recommendation to employers is to adjust work processes to physical capabilities of their employees and in that way protect workers who work exposed to sun and high temperatures.

Work in the open at high temperatures can lead to loss of focus and by that increase risks of injuries. Therefore, we appeal to employers to use the possibility to adjust their working hours and protect their workers.

An employer can organize the work in stages, in the morning and in the evening, and take a series of organizational measures to avoid damages to workers’ health. Measures such as work rotation, avoiding work in the hottest parts of the day (from 11am to 3pm), frequent breaks with providing large quantities of liquids, organising work in shift or introducing additional workforce during extreme conditions, and similar, significantly contributes to lowering risks.

Safe workplace should be a priority for both an employer and an employee. Good occupational safety and health increases productivity, and with that the competitiveness of an employer, as well as success in achieving business plans and goals. Life, health and preserving capacity to work are all values of great interest that directly affect economic development of the entire society. It is necessary to work continuously on recognising and preventing emerging risks at work.
